L. Fournier & Fils, PARTNER IN A FIRST FOR CANADA’S OPEN PIT MINING INDUSTRY : AN ELECTRIC HEAVY VEHICLE

November 2, 2020 -  Today, it was announced that L. Fournier & Fils is collaborating in the project of the electrification of a heavy mining vehicle with the Innovative Vehicle Institute (IVI), Propulsion Québec and the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), in presence of The Honourable Seamus O’Regan, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, Mr.Jonatan Julien, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources and Minister Responsible for the Côte-Nord Region and the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources of Canada Mr. Paul Lefebvre.

To ensure the success of this major project, L. Fournier & Fils, a recognized operator in the mining sector, provides the project with a Western Star 6900XD truck with a 40-ton loading capacity, as well as its technical experts, who will assist the electrification experts in converting the truck to accommodate the new components.

INAUGURATION OF FOURNIER MULTISPORT CENTRE

Val-d’Or, August 21, 2020.  The Fournier family is all gathered today to highlight the great engagement that was taken in May 2017 to participate as principal financial partner at the construction of the FOURNIER MULTISPORTS CENTRE.

The celebration of the inauguration in the presence of the 3 generations is another milestone in the relationship between the FOURNIER family and the Town of Val-d’Or and attests of its willingness to stay deeply engaged towards the next generations.

Donation to the Canadian Foundation of Multiple Sclerosis

The Abitibi-Témiscamingue Chapter of the Canadian Foundation of Multiple Sclerosis received a donation of 600$ from L. Fournier & Fils. The IT team has gathered the amount by selling decommissioned material.

Annual donation to the Val-d’Or Hospital Foundation and the La Source Gabriel Palliative Care House

Since 2015, L. Fournier & fils remitted the generous amount of 30 775 $ to supports two local organizations dedicated to medical issues.  For every metric tonne sold from the Sigma Site, five cents are attributed to the La Source Gabriel Palliative Care House and to the Val-d’Or Hospital Foundation. 

In 2019, a total of 3 845$ was donated to each of the two organizations.

The sustainable development strategy of L. Fournier & Fils is at the heart of the operations undertaken in 2014 regarding the valorization and second transformation of 20 million tons of abandoned mining sterile of the Sigma mine, located near the urban area of the town of Val-d’Or.  Efforts and work on the site already improved significantly the imprint on the ecology of a vast area and the industrial landscape of our collectivity.

New Partnership Agreement

It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that the executive management of Fournier & Fils announces the signature of an agreement on October 15thwith Meeyoubou inc

Mr. Angus Mayappo and Mrs. Stephanie Georgekish are the two partners who founded Meeyoubou inc. Both from the Cree Nation of Wemindji, they are highly respected by all Wemindji band members as well as by all the staff members of Éléonore Mine.  

We feel very privileged to have Mr. Mayappo and Mrs. Georgekish’s trust and we are exited to have this opportunity to create a strong partnership with a family based in the north part of Eeyou Istchee.  Our partnership will certainly be a great advantage in order to achieve tangible work in the area of the 52nd parallel on the Eeyou Istchee Baie James territory. As we look forward, we are grateful that our expertise in building positive multicultural working teams will benefit Meeyoubou – Fournier.

For a 17th year in a row, the Val-d’Or Native Friendship Centre has made it its mission to recognize and celebrate the perseverance, effort, and academic successes of all Indigenous students, from preschool to university, in Val-d’Or. The event took place at Theatre Telebec on June 6, 2019.
