Healt and Safety Officer


Summary

Under the supervision of the OHS coordinator and in direct collaboration with the site project manager, the preventionist is responsible for ensuring that site operations are safe and comply with the company's regulatory framework. Duties include inspection tours, raising awareness, supporting foremen in applying safety measures on site, and liaising with project trainers.

Job description

  • Inform employees about best practices, work card and OHS/environmental work procedures, relay information;
  • Oversee day-to-day OHS/Environment management by ensuring that Fournier procedures are followed by all (including subcontractors), and that site-specific safety measures are also respected;
  • Participate in various OHS committees and meetings with Fournier and the customer;
  • Conduct field audits and site inspections;
  • Sporadically, conduct investigations and analyses following incidents or occupational injuries, with the support of the OHS coordinator, follow up and forward findings to the project manager;
  • Carry out risk analyses, as required;
  • Write, with support, site-specific safety procedures;
  • Ensure that all workers are aware of the risks associated with their work;
  • Provide site-specific OHS induction as required;
  • Organize and hold safety breaks and/or site meetings to support supervisors;
  • Receive recommendations from safety committees;
  • Participate in the development and implementation of tools to ensure safe work practices;
  • Develop and implement a site-specific action plan;
  • Data entry into customer interface if applicable (e.g. interforce, ISNetworld, Cognibox ...);
  • Responsible for OHS and environmental communications with the customer, in collaboration with the Project Manager;
  • Any other related tasks.

Qualifications required

  • 1 year experience as a preventionist;
  • Experience working on various construction sites;

Skills required

  • Strong management, communication and problem-solving skills;
  • Demonstrate initiative and leadership;
  • Ability to adjust priorities according to those of the operation;
  • Bilingualism (asset).

Working conditions

  • Schedule: 10-4;
  • Location: VALE Project (Sudbury);
  • Group insurance;
